Ah, el Britpop. Una época dorada, que comenzó en 1994, para las bandas británicas y la música pop con guitarras. NOW Yearbook ’94 dice «sujétame la pinta» mientras ofrece 79 canciones de R&B estadounidense, boy bands, cantautoras estadounidenses, ganadores del Óscar de musicales de Disney, leyendas del rock que regresan a las listas tras un tiempo de ausencia, varios raperos y Jimmy Nail.

1994 sigue siendo un buen año, pero sin duda fue un año con altibajos. Fue el año en que Kylie regresó con «Confide in Me», Sting consiguió su primer éxito en el top 10 del Reino Unido con «When We Dance», y Bruce Springsteen volvió al top 10 británico por primera vez en nueve años con su sencillo número 2, «Streets Of Philadelphia».

Entre las boy bands se incluyen Take That, Boyzone, Boyz II Men, East 17 (dos temas, incluido el número 1 navideño ‘Stay Another Day’) y la primera mitad del CD 2 (la sección ‘britpop’) es la excepción más que la regla, pero excelente de todos modos con temas de Oasis, Radiohead, The Stone Roses, Suede, Elastica, Primal Scream y otros.

Dos dosis de Elton John de la banda sonora de El Rey León probablemente sean dos de más, pero es muy bueno ver incluidas aquí «Locked Out» de Crowded House, «Right Beside You» de Sophie B. Hawkins y «Swamp Thing» de The Grid.

Siendo honestos, hay bastante basura (¡PJ & Duncan!) y muchos artistas que, tras sus «grandes éxitos», sacan otros que te hacen pensar «¿Cómo era eso?» (véase Haddaway, D:Ream, M People, etc.).

Así pues, mientras que los anuarios de 1986 y 1987 fueron mucho mejores de lo esperado, el de 1994 es, sin duda, peor. Más irregular. Ofrece una imagen bastante precisa de los 12 meses en cuestión, e incluso si Blur estuviera representado (¡qué pena!), al final no cambiaría la imagen completa.

Los formatos habituales que se ofrecen son: sets de 4 CD (ediciones de lujo con libro de tapa dura y funda de cartón) y la versión de 3 LP, que incluye 44 pistas repartidas en seis caras de vinilo azul brillante.
